If HDZ is Blackmailed by DP, SDSS is Ready to Help

Milorad Pupovac, the leader of the Independent Democratic Party (SDSS), has signaled his party's readiness to assist the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) in forming a parliamentary majority. This offer comes with a significant caveat: it is contingent on HDZ facing "severe blackmail" from its current coalition partners.

Pupovac articulated this stance in a recent interview, criticizing what he described as a political culture that employs blackmail and undue demands. He expressed SDSS's willingness to step in and provide crucial support, potentially offering three parliamentary votes, to help HDZ navigate such difficult circumstances and counter the power of those attempting to exert undue influence.

This potential alliance is particularly noteworthy given the recent political landscape. The Democratic Party (DP), another coalition partner, had previously insisted on the removal of SDSS from all government positions as a prerequisite for joining the ruling coalition after the 2024 elections. Pupovac's statement suggests a strategic move by SDSS to position itself as a stabilizing force, ready to support HDZ if the coalition's stability is threatened by internal pressures.
