Igbo community visits Ondo CP after viral ethnic bias video

Members of the Igbo community in Ondo State visited Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu to show solidarity following a viral video of officers making ethnically biased comments. The delegation, representing the Non-Indigenes Assembly, praised the police command for its prompt and professional handling of the incident.

The viral video depicted a heated exchange between police officers and a motorist, who accused them of extortion and ethnic profiling. One officer's remark suggesting the driver would have been detained if he were Igbo sparked widespread condemnation.

The delegation expressed appreciation to the Commissioner of Police for his swift response in ordering a comprehensive investigation into the incident, describing the action as a demonstration of transparency, accountability and the Command’s commitment to justice.

The Ondo State Police Command had previously arrested four officers featured in the footage. The Igbo community's visit, led by Okita Onahi and Uche Anthony, aimed to commend the command's swift investigation and disciplinary actions. They expressed confidence in the impartiality of the ongoing investigation, highlighting the command's commitment to transparency and accountability.

This gesture by the Igbo community signifies a strengthening of trust between non-indigenes and the police in Ondo State, following the command's decisive action against misconduct.
