Igboho awaits FG approval to launch security outfit against criminals in Southwest forests

Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, known as Sunday Igboho, stated on Monday that he is still awaiting federal government approval for his security outfit, "Iru Ekun Security Network." The outfit is intended to help dislodge criminal elements from forests in Nigeria's South-West region.

We have submitted all the required documents for our registered security firm, ‘Iru Ekun Security Network’, and are only waiting for the Federal Government’s approval, which will be granted soon.

Igboho also expressed his readiness to comply with a recent executive order from the Oyo State Government, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, which aims to regulate private security firms. He emphasized that all necessary documents for "Iru Ekun Security Network" have been submitted to the federal government.

We are absolutely ready to collaborate with the Police, Department of State Service, Nigeria Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other relevant stakeholders in the security sector to flush out terrorists, kidnappers, bandits, and other hoodlums, who are threatening the peace and safety of our people, most especially in the rural communities.

Governor Makinde's executive order, signed on May 20, establishes a legal framework for security-related groups like vigilantes and community-based security organizations. The move is intended to ensure these groups operate within clear legal boundaries to maintain peace and order, addressing growing security challenges and uncoordinated activities.

It is obvious that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is resolutely committed to tackling criminalities not only in the South-West but also in all other regions plagued by insecurity.

Igboho commended President Bola Tinubu's administration for its commitment to improving the security architecture in the South-West and across Nigeria. He affirmed his group's readiness to collaborate with law enforcement agencies, including the police, DSS, army, and civil defense corps, to combat terrorists, kidnappers, bandits, and other criminals threatening public safety, particularly in rural areas.

Besides, I want to state that we are also ready to comply with the new Executive Order issued by Governor Seyi Makinde to regulate the activities of private security concerns. We are ready to support and cooperate with measures aimed at strengthening the security and peace in Oyo and other states in Yorubaland.
