Ikogosi Resort Transformation Driven by Nigerian Expertise and Investment

Lanre Balogun, General Manager of Glocient Hospitality, detailed the extensive transformations and investments at the Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort and Conference Centre in Nigeria's Ekiti State. Balogun highlighted that all improvements were executed by Nigerian experts and artisans, emphasizing local capacity building.

"Our goal at Glocient, is to transform moribund tourist attractions in Nigeria into profitable businesses and national treasures," Balogun stated. He noted that the resort, previously in a less habitable state, has seen substantial upgrades. Balogun, who previously worked with Radisson for over two decades, brought his extensive experience in hospitality management to the project.

A significant investment of nearly $200,000 (approximately N275 million) has been made in renewable energy, including the purchase and installation of solar panels. This system now provides 12 hours of power daily, projected to save the resort over half a billion naira annually compared to running a 500KVA generator for 10 hours.

The revitalization efforts have also focused on job creation, with over 230 staff employed. Balogun proudly stated that almost 70 percent of the staff are female, and over 60 percent are from the Ikogosi community. He also acknowledged the supportive role of the Ekiti State government, led by Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, in creating an enabling environment for the business to thrive. The resort's advantageous location, with two airports less than 50 minutes away, further enhances its accessibility.
