Île-de-France C1 cable car closed for maintenance until August 13

The C1 cable car, Île-de-France's first urban aerial tramway, has temporarily suspended operations for essential maintenance. The line, which connects Villeneuve-Saint-Georges to the Créteil Pointe du Lac metro station, will be closed until August 13th for its inaugural major upkeep.

This initial maintenance operation is being conducted by the Austrian manufacturer Doppelmayr, more than six months after the C1 line began service on December 13th. The process involves comprehensive checks of the entire system, including cables, pylons, and cabins, as well as software updates. Specific tests scheduled include emergency systems designed to return cabins to stations in case of motor failure, and braking system tests using weighted cabins to simulate passengers.

Since its launch, the C1 cable car has transported between 9,000 and 10,000 passengers daily, exceeding 1.8 million travelers in total. The line, spanning 4.5 kilometers with five stations, has garnered international attention, with transport operators from Germany and New Zealand reportedly visiting to study its integration into a dense urban environment. A replacement bus service is currently in operation to assist passengers during the maintenance period.
