Illegal Roadside Structures Face Demolition Costs in Kyrgyzstan

Owners of illegal constructions situated along roads in Kyrgyzstan face the prospect of footing the bill for their demolition, according to a reminder from the Ministry of Transport and Communications. The ministry is reinforcing a strict ban on unauthorized structures within the designated right-of-way and protective zones of highways.

The law "On Automobile Roads" stipulates the width of the right-of-way, ranging from 12 to 32 meters depending on the road's technical category. These zones, along with adjacent protective strips, are maintained under a special regime to ensure traffic safety and facilitate future road infrastructure development. Only essential facilities for road users, such as bus stops and parking areas, are permitted within these zones.

Any buildings or commercial establishments erected in contravention of these regulations are deemed illegal. Road services are tasked with the removal of such structures. Crucially, the ministry has stated that the costs and losses incurred during the demolition process will be recovered from the individuals or entities responsible for the illegal construction.

This measure aims to maintain the integrity and safety of the road network while ensuring compliance with established land use regulations for transportation infrastructure. The ministry's directive underscores a commitment to orderly development and the enforcement of laws governing road corridors.
