Ilorin Emirate Youths Back APC’s Kwara North Guber Ticket

Youth organizations from the Ilorin Emirate have publicly declared their support for Yakubu Danladi Salihu, the current Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, to be the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the 2027 election. This backing comes from joint press conferences organized by the Ilorin Emirate Dynamic Youth Initiative and the Ilorin Emirate Youth Progressive for Communities.

We believe that supporting the governorship aspiration of Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi is not only a political decision but a moral obligation rooted in fairness, justice and equity

The primary argument for their endorsement rests on the principle of equity and inclusive governance, emphasizing that the Kwara North Senatorial District deserves the opportunity to produce the state's governor. Since Nigeria's return to democratic rule in 1999, both Kwara Central and Kwara South districts have held the governorship, while Kwara North has yet to occupy the office. "It is therefore only fair and just that the district be supported to occupy the office in 2027," the groups stated.

The youth groups view Salihu's aspiration as a legitimate pursuit of political balance and inclusion. They believe that supporting a candidate from Kwara North would not only strengthen unity but also foster a greater sense of belonging among the state's diverse communities. Furthermore, they see this endorsement as a reciprocal gesture, acknowledging Kwara North's consistent political support for candidates from other districts over the years.

Beyond the regional equity argument, the groups highlighted Salihu's qualifications, pointing to his background as an engineer, former lecturer, and his current role as Speaker. The endorsement urges APC leaders, stakeholders, and residents to support Salihu, believing that ensuring representation for all parts of the state will promote social cohesion, peace, and development.
