Im Sung-jae Joins Presidents Cup Team as Internationals Seek to End 10-Match Losing Run

Im Sung-jae will return to the Presidents Cup after International team captain Geoff Ogilvy named him among six captain’s picks for the 2026 competition. The selection gives South Korea three players on the International roster, alongside Kim Si-woo and Kim Joo-hyung.

Ogilvy also selected Corey Conners of Canada, Nico Echavarria of Colombia, Ryo Hisatsune of Japan, Nick Taylor of Canada and Christiaan Bezuidenhout of South Africa. The team had already filled six places through automatic selection after the PGA Tour’s Tour Championship, choosing Kim Si-woo, Hideki Matsuyama, Ryan Fox, Kim Joo-hyung, Min Woo Lee and Adam Scott.

This will be Im’s fourth Presidents Cup appearance. He first played in 2019 and returned in 2022 and 2024. A wrist injury kept him out during the first two months of the season and briefly pushed him outside the world’s top 80, but he recovered with top-15 finishes in each of his last six tournaments.

Ogilvy called Im “a huge asset to the team,” adding that he was a “birdie machine” and “the most fun guy on the team.” The biennial event features four-ball and foursomes before concluding with singles match play. The 2026 Presidents Cup will be held from Sept. 24 to 27 at Medina Country Club in Illinois.

The United States has dominated the competition since its first edition in 1994, recording 13 wins, one tie and one loss through 2024. The International team’s only victory came in Australia in 1998, and it has since suffered 10 straight defeats.
