Im Sung-jae tied for 12th at BMW Championship; McIlroy shares lead

Im Sung-jae opened the BMW Championship, the second leg of the 2026 PGA Tour FedEx Cup Playoffs, in a tie for 12th place. He carded a 3-under-par 68, with five birdies and two bogeys, placing him three shots behind the co-leaders at 6-under-par.

To secure a spot in the Tour Championship for the eighth consecutive year, Im, currently 40th in the FedEx Cup standings, needs a strong performance. He must finish tied for sixth or better in this tournament. His recent T5 finish at the St. Jude Championship kept his hopes alive.

Other notable Korean players also began the tournament. Kim Si-woo, ranked fourth in the FedEx Cup, is tied for 32nd after an even-par 71. Kim Joo-hyung, ranked 26th, struggled with two double bogeys, finishing at 2-over-par 72 and tied for 44th.

World number two Rory McIlroy is among the co-leaders after a bogey-free round of 64. Meanwhile, FedEx Cup leader Scottie Scheffler is also tied for 44th after shooting a 2-over-par 72.
