IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva to visit Argentina end of July

Kristalina Georgieva, the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), is set to visit Argentina at the end of July, marking her first trip to the country since assuming leadership of the multilateral lending institution in 2019. The visit, scheduled for July 27 and 28, was announced by Economy Minister Luis Caputo, who highlighted the "excellent relationship and constructive dialogue" between the Argentine government and the IMF.

Caputo stated that Georgieva's arrival will "continue to deepen joint work and IMF support to consolidate the progress achieved in economic stability and growth." Julie Kozack, the IMF's director of communication, confirmed the visit, noting that Georgieva plans to meet with President Javier Milei, the economic team, and "other relevant actors, including those outside the governmental sphere." She will also visit Uruguay during the same trip.

Kozack explained that the timing of the visit, which comes after a significant period without a trip by Georgieva, was appropriate given everyone's schedules and the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Argentine government's political council recently reviewed the agenda for Georgieva's visit, which includes a meeting with President Milei on July 27. This will be their first meeting of the year, following their last encounter in September 2025 in New York.
