In 1876, Jesse James’s gang tried to rob a Minnesota bank for seven minutes. 150 years later, the town still remembers

A seven-minute bank robbery in Northfield, Minnesota, became one of the town’s defining historical episodes after local citizens confronted Jesse James’s notorious gang in 1876.

The standoff ultimately led to the gang’s capture. Today, the Northfield Historical Society preserves artifacts connected to the event, including an outlaw’s duster and even a mummified ear.

Northfield continues to honor the episode with a lively annual festival.
