Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is navigating a significant crisis following his latest military reshuffle, which has ignited public protests, political dissent, and unprecedented interventions from military officers into the public debate.

Since last Thursday, demonstrators have gathered nightly in central Kyiv to protest the dismissal of Defense Minister Mykhaïlo Fedorov. The situation escalated Tuesday evening when Zelensky announced a change at the top of the army. Oleksandr Syrsky, 60, known as a Soviet-era officer, was replaced by Mykhaïlo Drapatyi, a popular 43-year-old general whose name the protesters had been chanting.

Zelensky acknowledged hearing the crowds, stating he was "listening." However, the move has led to widespread discontent, with citizen rallies in major cities and a notable "revolt" within parliament. Numerous officers have also publicly commented on the situation, a highly unusual occurrence.

This is Zelensky's third major reshuffle in a year, and he likely did not anticipate it would lead to such a multifaceted crisis. The protests and political friction suggest a growing challenge to his leadership as the country faces ongoing conflict.
