India Floods: Assam Death Toll Rises to 80; Over 1.92 Lakh Affected

Assam continues to grapple with severe flooding, as the death toll has risen to 80, according to the latest report from the Disaster Reporting and Information Management System (DRIMS) as of July 31. Two fresh deaths were reported, one each in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts, bringing the total number of lives lost.

The floods have devastated vast areas, impacting 192,799 people across five districts: Sivasagar, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, and Charaideo. A total of 379 villages have been submerged, and 15,430 hectares of crop area have been affected, posing a significant threat to the region's agriculture and livelihoods. No urban flooding has been reported.

I was heartened to learn that Shri Gautam Adani Ji has made an online contribution of Rs 11 crore to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to strengthen our efforts to assist those affected by the Assam floods.

In response to the crisis, prominent figures have stepped forward to aid relief efforts. Industrialist Gautam Adani contributed Rs 11 crore to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, a gesture praised by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as strengthening the state's capacity to assist affected families. Actor Kartik Aaryan also donated Rs 1 crore, which the Chief Minister described as "heartening."

The Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) has also pledged financial assistance, deciding to contribute to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund and intensify its relief efforts for the flood-affected communities.
