India honors Kargil heroes with events marking 27th anniversary of Operation Vijay

India is marking the 27th anniversary of the Kargil War victory with a series of commemorative events honoring the soldiers who fought in Operation Vijay. The celebrations, scheduled for July 25-26, are centered around the Kargil War Memorial in Dras.

The events include a 'Shaurya Sandhya' (evening of bravery), a musical presentation by the Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre Band, and a motorcycle display by the 'Shwet Ashwa' team. These activities aim to pay tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and indomitable spirit of the Indian soldiers who reclaimed Kargil heights against challenging conditions and enemy fire in 1999.

Key figures, including Major General Amit Prakash Singh and Lt Gen Madanraj Pande, along with Kargil war veterans, 'Veer Naris' (war widows), and 'Veer Matas' (mothers of fallen soldiers), are expected to attend various ceremonies. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to be the chief guest at the 'Shaurya Sandhya' event on Saturday evening.

Operation Vijay, India's limited war against Pakistan following infiltration in 1999, culminated on July 26, 1999. The commemoration includes a video presentation recounting the war's events and honoring the 40 soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice. Cultural programs and a banquet are also part of the schedule, celebrating patriotism and the Indian Army's professionalism.
