India invites Rodrigo Paz to BRICS summit, offers digital and pharmaceutical cooperation

India wants Rodrigo Paz Pereira at the BRICS summit in New Delhi, either in person or represented by a senior minister. The meeting will take place on September 12 and 13, when India expects more than 15 presidents and prime ministers, along with vice presidents and senior ministers.

The invitation came from Ambassador Rohit Vadhwana in a column published by EL DEBER. “We hope to welcome Bolivia’s leadership to the summit in New Delhi,” he wrote. India has held the rotating BRICS presidency since January and will host the meeting under the slogan “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”

Vadhwana presented Bolivia’s status as a BRICS partner country as an opening for practical cooperation. In digital government, India is offering the India Stack, a set of open-source platforms designed for public services, financial transactions, digital identity and administrative procedures. The ambassador linked the proposal to Paz’s stated priority of digitizing public administration, while emphasizing that Bolivia would retain “full sovereign control and local ownership” of the platforms.

Health and energy also feature in the proposed agenda. India recently delivered 300,000 measles vaccine doses to Bolivia and suggested that Bolivia join or recognize the Indian Pharmacopoeia, which Vadhwana said could make the movement of medicines and pharmaceutical products between the two countries easier and cheaper. India also highlighted its installed solar capacity of 175 gigawatts and proposed cooperation with Bolivia based on the country’s high solar potential.

The BRICS grouping now includes 11 full members and 10 partner countries, among them Bolivia. Figures cited by Vadhwana say the group represents 49.5% of the world’s population, about 40% of global GDP and 26% of international trade. It also accounts for roughly 30% of global oil production and 45% of worldwide agricultural activity.
