India PM Modi says he forgives protesters who abused him

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated he wishes to forgive the "mischievous youngsters" who recently protested and hurled insults at him and his late mother. These demonstrations, fueled by anger over examination paper leaks, evolved into a broader challenge to his government, highlighting concerns about unemployment and governance. The protests culminated in the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Modi, speaking in a video on Instagram, described the protesters' language as "vile" and unbecoming of "civilised society." He emphasized a desire for correction through guidance rather than legal action, referencing police complaints filed against some demonstrators. Online abuse against protesters by Modi supporters and police actions to remove "abusive content" from social media platforms were also reported.

The Prime Minister's use of Instagram to communicate directly with young people is notable, given the platform's role in mobilizing support for the protests. His ruling party boasts a large following, while the newly launched Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has an even larger presence, indicating a shift in political communication strategies.
