India provides 10 tons of aid to Nepal following devastating flash floods

India has demonstrated strong solidarity with Nepal by providing 10 tons of humanitarian aid following catastrophic flash floods that devastated the Bhotekoshi River region. The Embassy of India in Nepal emphasized its deep-rooted partnership with the Himalayan nation during this time of crisis.

Ambassador Naveen Srivastava personally handed over the aid materials to Nepal's Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Mr. Khadka Raj Poudel. He stated, "Always with Nepal. This assistance will contribute to the relief efforts following the devastating floods. India stands firmly with Nepal and is committed to providing all possible support."

The disaster struck Nepal's Bhotekoshi River region on Wednesday after an avalanche blocked the Lhende tributary. This led to a violent surge downstream, striking Timure near the China border without warning. The floods caused widespread destruction, with preliminary assessments indicating the loss of nine hydropower projects, nine commercial bank branches, 19 bridges, and approximately 40 kilometers of highway.

As of the latest reports, at least 157 people have been confirmed dead, and nearly 400 individuals remain unaccounted for. Among the missing are foreign nationals and security personnel. The Nepal Prime Minister's Office reported that 391 foreigners were among the 44 security personnel and hundreds of others missing. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with his Nepalese counterpart, Balendra Shah, conveying condolences and offering full humanitarian assistance.
