India's Independence Day marked by global 'Suryapath Tiranga' flag relay

India's 80th Independence Day was celebrated with 'Suryapath Tiranga,' a unique global campaign that saw the Indian tricolour digitally relayed across 54 Indian missions spanning continents. The initiative, designed to mark the occasion from east to west, symbolically connected the missions in a journey that followed the sun's path.

The global relay commenced with the Indian High Commission in Suva, Fiji, and concluded at the Indian consulate in San Francisco, USA. This extensive chain of flag-hoisting ceremonies lasted over 19 hours, geographically linking the Pacific, Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. Officials described it as a "symbolic journey of the 'tiranga' across the globe."

With the first rays of the sun, the Indian flag was raised first in Suva, Fiji, marking the beginning of the global Tiranga relay, 'Surya Path Tiranga' a symbolic journey carrying the spirit of India's Independence Day across the world.

Part of the larger 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, 'Suryapath Tiranga' carried the spirit of India's national flag across the world. The campaign began in Suva at 1:30 am IST and ended in San Francisco at 8:30 pm IST, as stated by the Ministry of Culture. Each successive flag-hoisting represented a new chapter in the global celebration of India's Independence Day.

Integral to the events were mass singing of 'Vande Mataram' and the national anthem, fostering a shared sense of patriotism among members of the Indian diaspora, officials, and friends of India. The initiative aimed to reinforce the message that the 'Tiranga' transcends geographical boundaries, uniting people worldwide.
