India to Donate 100 More Ambulances to Sri Lanka's Decade-Old 'Suwaseriya' Service

India is set to bolster Sri Lanka's emergency medical services by donating an additional 100 ambulances to the 'Suwaseriya' program. This contribution comes as the existing fleet of 319 ambulances marks a decade of service to the nation.

Health and Media Minister Nalin Jayathissa announced the impending donation, stating that the process is in its final stages. He praised 'Suwaseriya' for its decade-long commitment, efficiency, and humanitarian service in meeting the urgent health needs of Sri Lankans. The announcement was made during the 10th-anniversary celebration of the 'Suwaseriya' Foundation.

The 'Suwaseriya' ambulance service, a free pre-hospital emergency response initiative, began on July 28, 2016, with 88 ambulances donated by the Indian government and its people. Over the past ten years, the service has responded to over 10 million emergency calls and provided life-saving assistance in more than 2.6 million emergencies. Operating 24/7, it has become a beacon of hope for those requiring immediate medical attention.
