Indian Ambassador Visits Flood-Hit Hydropower Project in Rasuwa

Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava visited Syabrubesi near Chilime in Rasuwa to see the tunnel excavation and search operation at a hydropower project buried by the recent Bhotekoshi flood.

Srivastava said he met an Indian technical team deployed at the site. Working alongside the Nepali Army, the team has used specialised equipment to search up to 100 metres inside the tunnel at the Chilime power house.

"The team plans to bring in heavy equipment to advance further into the tunnel," Srivastava wrote on social media. He said the operation is taking place in difficult conditions, with challenging terrain and ground saturated by water.

Despite those obstacles, the Indian and Nepali teams remain committed to the search and rescue effort, according to the ambassador. The visit allowed him to assess the situation and observe the work being carried out on the ground.

The flood swept through the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers on September 10, affecting settlements and infrastructure along the river corridors. Areas affected included Timure, Syabrubesi and Betrawati in Rasuwa, along with Trishuli Bazaar and Devighat in Nuwakot. Riverbank areas in Dhading, Chitwan and Gorkha were also affected, and several hydropower projects sustained damage.
