Indian auto industry records highest-ever July sales across all segments

India's auto industry has reported its strongest July sales performance on record, with robust double-digit growth fueled by high domestic demand across passenger vehicles (PVs), three-wheelers (3Ws), and two-wheelers (2Ws). The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) data reveals a significant year-on-year increase in total domestic PV sales, which rose by 34.3% to 457,810 units in July 2026, up from 340,772 units in July 2025.

Overall monthly production for all vehicle categories, including PVs, 3Ws, 2Ws, and quadricycles, reached an impressive 3,370,958 units in July 2026. Rajesh Menon, Director General of SIAM, highlighted the sustained positive momentum, stating, "India's auto industry delivered its strongest-ever July sales, with robust double-digit growth across Passenger Vehicles, Three-Wheelers and Two-Wheelers." He added that the industry is entering the festive season with optimism, expecting strong consumer sentiment to continue this trend.

The three-wheeler market saw domestic sales climb by 33.4% to 92,560 units in July 2026 compared to the previous year. Passenger carriers within this segment increased by 32.9% to 77,994 units, while goods carriers saw a 40.3% rise to 12,896 units. E-rickshaw sales also grew by 7.5% to 1,132 units, and e-carts expanded by 16.2% to 538 units.

In the two-wheeler segment, total domestic sales reached 1,923,483 units in July 2026, marking a 22.6% increase from July 2025. Motorcycle sales rose by 20.7% to 1,074,796 units, scooter sales increased by 23.7% to 798,190 units, and moped sales experienced a substantial surge of 48.6% to 50,497 units. Domestic sales for quadricycles were minimal, with only four units reported for July 2026.
