Indian Man Dies in Detroit Road Accident After Developing Rare Cerebral Fat Embolism

Nithyanand Reddy Gannu, a 26-year-old Indian national residing in Detroit, has died following a severe road accident that occurred on July 18. Gannu, originally from the Nirmal district of Telangana, had been in the U.S. for three years pursuing an Emergency Medical Services course and had recently started a new job.

The accident left Gannu with multiple critical injuries, including a fracture that necessitated emergency surgery. However, his condition took a grave turn when he developed cerebral fat embolism, a rare and life-threatening complication. This condition occurs when fat droplets from a fractured bone enter the bloodstream and travel to the brain, causing multiple clots.

Friends and family had launched a fundraiser to support his treatment, describing Gannu as a "kind, hardworking, and caring" individual. They held vigil at the hospital on July 23, which was his birthday, while he remained on life support and unconscious. Tragically, he was declared dead just hours later.

Doctors had officially declared Gannu brain-dead, and he was kept on life support under the care of various specialists, including trauma surgeons, neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, and critical care physicians. His family and friends had been praying for signs of recovery, but the rare complication proved fatal.
