Indian-origin man arrested for stealing $41,550 in designer clothes from Miami store

A 22-year-old man of Indian origin, Dhir Patel, has been apprehended for a months-long spree of stealing high-end designer clothing from a boutique in Miami's Wynwood neighborhood. Patel's alleged scheme involved repeatedly visiting the store, sometimes to conduct legitimate sales and other times to pilfer merchandise, according to investigators.

Surveillance cameras captured Patel concealing clothing items in a bag he brought with him. The shop owner, Louis Negrich, initially estimated the stolen goods to be worth around $41,550. However, Negrich later told Local 10 News that the total value could be significantly higher, possibly reaching $55,000 to $60,000.

We originally started at $41,000 since we’ve calculated it up, it’s about $55-to-60,000 now.

Negrich noted that Patel had also made some purchases from the store, which initially prevented his suspicious behavior from raising immediate alarms. The Miami Police Department arrested Patel on a grand theft charge after he returned to the store to sell more items. Authorities reported that Patel provided a confession, though details were redacted from the publicly released arrest report.

Patel, who resides in Boynton Beach, was charged with grand theft. Court records indicate he has since been released from jail after posting a $5,000 bond. The store owner urged individuals against theft, stating, "Just don’t steal. It’s just as simple as that. It’s just, everything comes back to bite you."
