India's Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned, yielding to a month-long student protest movement that demanded accountability for exam irregularities and alleged leaks of the NEET exam paper. Pradhan submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.

The minister's departure was the primary demand of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), whose supporters had been demonstrating at Delhi's Jantar Mantar for over a month. Talks between the CJP and the government had stalled, with protesters insisting no further discussions could occur without Pradhan's removal.

Protesters' core demands included Pradhan's resignation, no legal action against student demonstrators, and compensation for families of students who died by suicide following the NEET paper leak controversy. While the government had agreed to address the latter two points, it had not committed to removing the minister until his resignation.

Announcing his decision, Pradhan stated he respected the aspirations of India's youth and thanked Prime Minister Modi for the opportunity to serve. He asserted the move aimed to protect students' futures and prevent the protest situation from being exploited by forces detrimental to national unity. News of his resignation triggered celebrations at the protest site, with CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke declaring, "We have done it."
