Indonesia landfill fire rages for sixth day, 102 residents evacuated

A fire at the Jatiwaringin landfill in Tangerang, Indonesia, has continued to burn for six days, forcing the evacuation of 102 residents. The affected individuals, from Desa Tanjakan Mekar in Rajeg, are currently housed in two evacuation posts set up by the local government.

Bupati Tangerang Maesyal Rasyid stated that the government is prioritizing the health of both emergency personnel and the displaced residents. The local health agency and community health centers are actively monitoring the situation, with 72 individuals already treated for acute respiratory infections (ISPA) caused by smoke inhalation.

Firefighting operations are ongoing, involving personnel from the fire department, Manggala Agni, heavy equipment, and a water-bombing helicopter. While the fire is not yet fully extinguished, authorities report that it is largely under control. Approximately 3.6% of the landfill's 18-hectare area, or about 1.68 hectares, still shows active flames.
