Indonesia Prepares $16 Billion for Public Order and Security in 2027 Budget

Indonesia's government is preparing a substantial budget of Rp259.3 trillion for public order and security in the 2027 State Budget. This allocation aims to bolster national security through eight key priority outputs. These include tackling conventional and online gambling, addressing drug trafficking, and combating human smuggling. The budget also earmarks funds for asset recovery operations and counter-terrorism intelligence.

Several prominent ministries and agencies will be responsible for implementing these initiatives. Among them are the Supreme Court, the Attorney General's Office, the National Intelligence Agency, the Indonesian National Police, and the National Narcotics Agency. The Corruption Eradication Commission, the National Disaster Management Agency, and the National Counter-Terrorism Agency are also involved, alongside the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights.

This planned expenditure reflects a growing trend in security spending. Between 2022 and 2025, the budget for public order and security functions saw an average annual growth of 11.5 percent. It increased from Rp171.798 trillion in 2022 to a projected Rp238.687 trillion for 2025. This rise is attributed to the development of equipment for the National Police and infrastructure upgrades for the Attorney General's Office.
