Indonesian caregiver who inherited $4 million from actor Chen Sung-yung reportedly spent it in a year and returned to caregiving

Yule, the Indonesian caregiver who looked after actor Chen Sung-yung for eight years, reportedly said she spent the NT$4 million she inherited from him within a year. She has now returned to Taiwan and resumed working as a caregiver.

Chen, a Golden Horse-winning actor, died on Dec. 17, 2021. He never married and left an estate estimated at about NT$27 million, as well as a property in Linkou District, New Taipei City. Yule, who was described as having a father-daughter relationship with Chen, received NT$4 million after his death.

Yule returned to Indonesia in March 2022. At the time, she said she did not know what she would do there, but noted that Chen had paid her double wages each month and given her gold bars as year-end gifts. She also said she had bought several plots of land in Indonesia and that her children had grown up.

Chen’s friend Chen Wei-han continued asking about Yule’s situation through veteran media figure Nien Chang. He learned that Yule had married and that her children were older. Chen had reportedly paid for her husband and children to visit Taiwan and hosted them.

Yule was also said to have made handmade cookies after returning to Indonesia. The report said she nevertheless eventually came back to Taiwan to work again as a caregiver.
