Indonesian Corruption Watchdogs Complete Probe into Ex-Customs Officials Facing Bribery Charges

Three former officials from Indonesia's Directorate General of Customs and Excise are set to stand trial for bribery charges. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) announced the completion of its investigation and the transfer of case files to prosecutors. The accused include Rizal, Director of Enforcement and Investigation; Sisprian Subiaksono, Head of Intelligence at the Directorate of Enforcement and Investigation; and Orlando Hamonangan, Head of Customs Intelligence Section I at the Directorate of Enforcement and Investigation.

According to the KPK, the officials allegedly received substantial bribes from Blueray Cargo (Group), a logistics company. Rizal reportedly received at least Rp14 billion, Sisprian Rp7 billion, and Orlando approximately Rp4.05 billion. In addition to cash, the officials also received entertainment facilities worth Rp1.45 billion and a Mazda CX-5 car valued at Rp330 million for one of them. These payments were allegedly made to facilitate the import of goods for Blueray Cargo.

The KPK stated that the investigation into the receiving party has been completed, and the case has entered the prosecution stage. Prosecutors have a maximum of 14 working days to prepare the indictment before submitting it to the Corruption Court. Meanwhile, the investigation into the alleged briber, John Field, the leader of Blueray Cargo (Group), is ongoing. Field and his associate have been charged with bribing customs officials with Rp61 billion and luxury goods worth Rp1.8 billion.
