Indonesian Ministry Encourages Economic Independence Through Creativity

Niken Tomsi Tohir, head of the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) at Indonesia's Ministry of Home Affairs, urged members to harness their creativity to boost family economic independence. She highlighted the potential for turning hobbies and artistic creations into marketable products that can increase household income.

Hopefully, what we carry out this morning can increase the knowledge of all mothers and can increase income if we later make it ourselves at home.

Tohir's remarks came during a decoupage technique training session focused on shoe media, held at the Institute of Government Administration (IPDN) campus in Cilandak, Jakarta. The event, themed 'Through Art Training, We Enhance the Creativity and Economic Independence of DWP Kemendagri,' aimed to impart new skills and boost earnings.

She explained that decoupage is an accessible craft requiring minimal production costs and affordable materials. The shoes used in the training were sourced from local artisans, while supplies like patterned tissues and glue are readily available. Tohir emphasized that the resulting decorated shoes possess both aesthetic value and economic potential for DWP members.

Hopefully, the shoes can be used when we have activities on August 17th.

The decorated shoes are slated to be worn during events celebrating the 81st anniversary of Indonesian Independence. Tohir expressed hope that this initiative will cultivate a sustainable spirit of creativity within the DWP Kemendagri, leading to innovative products that benefit families and the wider community.
