Indonesian Ministry of Interior Urges Regional Governments to Foster Health Sovereignty by 2045

Regional governments in Indonesia play a crucial role in achieving the nation's health sovereignty by 2045, according to the Ministry of Interior. Deputy Minister of Interior Akhmad Wiyagus stressed that local governments must integrate health agendas into their development planning and budgeting.

Wiyagus highlighted this during a national seminar in Bandung, stating that national resilience is increasingly measured by the quality of its human resources, making inclusive health a key to Indonesia's Golden Era in 2045. He emphasized that a globally competitive nation can only emerge from a healthy and self-determining population.

The ministry believes that health development cannot be solely the responsibility of the health sector. It requires collaboration between the central government, regional governments, businesses, community organizations, religious groups, and all societal elements. Furthermore, health initiatives need support from other sectors like clean water, sanitation, food security, education, social protection, spatial planning, environmental management, and community empowerment.

Wiyagus assured that the Ministry of Interior will strengthen regional governments' roles in making health a core part of their development plans, strategic documents, and budgets. This aims to enhance cross-sectoral synergy for better health services. He also stated that regional governments should act as collaboration hubs, uniting local forces to support the 2045 health sovereignty goal, in line with constitutional rights and existing laws on health and regional governance.
