Indonesian Students Represent Nation at ASEAN Children's Forum

Two students from Sekolah Rakyat, Misfan Nazriel Faturrahman and Jasmia Kusuma Dewi, represented Indonesia at the 9th ASEAN Children's Forum (ACF) 2026 in Putrajaya, Malaysia. The forum, held hybridly on August 4-5, 2026, brought together delegates from ASEAN countries to discuss child protection efforts.

The ACF 2026, themed 'Shielding ASEAN Childhood: Say No to Violence,' served as a platform for ASEAN children to exchange experiences and formulate recommendations on preventing violence against children. These recommendations aim to inform child protection policies across the ASEAN region. The event was organized under the coordination of the Senior Officials Meeting on Social Welfare and Development (SOMSWD).

We made everything ourselves, from videos to texts, discussions, and brainstorming as a group of four. We used data from several ministries, fact-checked and double-checked it, and ensured the language was correct and polite.

Misfan and Jasmia participated online from Aston Imperial Bekasi, accompanied by their teachers and mentors from the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection. They engaged in presentations, group discussions, and collaborative recommendation drafting on violence in schools, families, digital spaces, and communities.

The Indonesian delegation highlighted five key forms of child violence in Indonesia: physical, psychological or emotional, sexual, digital, and neglect. Misfan noted that the delegation prepared all materials themselves, from scriptwriting to data verification, ensuring accuracy and respectful language. Their English teacher from Sekolah Rakyat DKI Jakarta, Tahta Aulia Pangestika, expressed pride in the students' achievement, marking the first time Sekolah Rakyat students participated in such an international forum.

This is the first time students from Sekolah Rakyat have participated in an international forum. We conducted extensive research on cases in Indonesia and ASEAN. For about a week, we focused on brainstorming and learning the terms to be used in the forum.
