INE approves 2026-2027 Federal Electoral Process calendar

Mexico's National Electoral Institute (INE) has set the stage for the 2026-2027 Federal Electoral Process, with a comprehensive calendar approved by its General Council. The electoral journey officially kicks off on September 10, culminating in elections on June 6, 2027.

This electoral cycle will see the renewal of all 500 seats in the Chamber of Deputies, with 300 representatives to be elected by majority and 200 by proportional representation. The approval of the calendar also activates electoral observation mechanisms and opens the door for foreign visitors interested in observing the process, with applications accepted until May 26, 2027.

Key milestones include the commencement of pre-campaigns in the first week of January 2027, allowing party aspirants to seek internal support, concluding on February 12. For independent candidates, the period for submitting and reviewing their intent to run runs from October 5 to November 30, 2026, with citizen support collection ending on February 12, 2027.

Candidate registration is slated for March 22 to April 3, 2027, followed by official campaign periods from April until June 2. A strict electoral silence will be observed from June 3 to 5, just before election day on Sunday, June 6, 2027. Post-election, district counts will occur from June 9 to 11, with proportional representation assignments scheduled between August 1 and 23.
