INEC declares APC’s Asogwa winner of Enugu North by-election

Ikeje Asogwa, the candidate for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has been declared the winner of the Enugu North Senatorial by-election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Asogwa garnered an impressive 162,360 votes, decisively defeating his main opponent, Nestor Ezeme of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who trailed with 9,299 votes. The election was necessitated by the passing of Senator Okey Ezea, a Labour Party member, in November 2025.

Ikeje Asogwa, having satisfied the requirements of the law in this election, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.

Announcing the results on Sunday, Returning Officer Christian Ezeibe, a professor at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, confirmed Asogwa's victory. A total of 727,340 voters were registered in the district, with 184,094 accredited for the exercise. Other candidates, including Okwudili Ossai of the Nigeria Democratic Congress and Chika Idoko of the African Democratic Party, secured third and fourth positions respectively.

In his acceptance speech, Asogwa expressed gratitude, stating the outcome reflected the "overwhelming victory" of the district's residents. He pledged to provide quality and effective representation, honoring the substantial support and confidence shown by the constituents.
