INEC dismisses reports of revised 2027 campaign timetable

Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially debunked circulating reports and graphics claiming a revised campaign timetable for the 2027 general elections. The viral online content suggested updated dates for campaign periods, including the presidential, National Assembly, governorship, and state House of Assembly elections. However, INEC asserts that it has not issued any such separate timetable.

Adedayo Oketola, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, stated that the graphic did not originate from the commission and described it as fake. He emphasized that all official campaign timelines are already incorporated within the revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election, which was initially released on February 26, 2026.

INEC is urging the media and the public to exercise vigilance against the spread of misinformation and disinformation, particularly as the election season approaches. The commission advises everyone to verify electoral information exclusively through its official communication channels. The officially released timetable indicates that campaigns for presidential and National Assembly elections are set to commence on August 19, 2026, and conclude on January 14, 2027, while governorship and state assembly campaigns will begin on September 9, 2026, and end on February 4, 2027.
