INEC moves to restore three Delta assembly constituencies

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has initiated the process to restore three State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta State: Abraka, Ughelli South II, and Isoko North II. This move aims to reinstate representation for the affected communities, aligning with court judgments and constitutional provisions. INEC stated the exercise is crucial for strengthening democracy and ensuring residents regain their voices in the state legislature. Sir Etekamba Udo Umoren, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Delta State, highlighted that the affected communities have lacked proper representation, making this restoration necessary. He appealed to stakeholders, including traditional rulers, political leaders, and civil society groups, to support the commission by providing accurate information and encouraging peaceful participation. Umoren also urged security agencies to ensure adequate security throughout the process to build public confidence. Mrs. Emem Umoren, Deputy Director of Delineation, emphasized that the restoration guarantees equal political representation and upholds the constitutional right of residents to elect their representatives. She expressed confidence that with stakeholder support, the constituencies will be successfully restored, further bolstering democracy in Delta State.
