INEC Restores Four Constituencies in Delta, Kogi

Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially restored four state House of Assembly constituencies that were previously suppressed in Delta and Kogi States. This action follows court judgments mandating the reinstatement of these additional constituencies.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, announced on Friday that three constituencies have been restored in Delta State: Abraka, Isoko North II, and Ughelli South II. One constituency, Yagba West II, has been restored in Kogi State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wishes to notify the public that it has restored four more previously suppressed state House of Assembly constituencies, three more in Delta and one more in Kogi States, pursuant to the judgment of the courts directing the restoration of the additional constituencies in the two states.

The commission has set August 21 to 25, 2026, for political parties to conduct primaries for these newly restored constituencies. This period aligns with the schedule for primaries for other by-elections, including those for the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State and several state constituencies in Bauchi, Delta, and Kano States.

INEC emphasized that all other timelines and activities outlined in the revised timetable for the 2027 general election will apply to the restored constituencies. The commission urged political parties to submit their primary notices to INEC before the scheduled dates, reaffirming its commitment to credible, inclusive, and transparent electoral processes.
