Infantino Denies Affair Allegations After Report Claims UEFA Paid Colleague Six Figures

FIFA President Gianni Infantino is embroiled in a new scandal following reports by The Daily Telegraph alleging an affair with a colleague during his tenure as UEFA's General Secretary. Infantino worked at the European football body from 2000, serving as General Secretary from 2009 to 2016 before moving to lead FIFA.

The report claims UEFA paid the alleged lover a six-figure sum. Furthermore, she was reportedly promoted to a director position earning €170,000 annually before her departure. UEFA also allegedly covered her MBA studies, which cost approximately €52,000 per year.

Infantino has strongly refuted the accusations. A spokesperson for FIFA stated, "President Infantino categorically denies these allegations, they are categorically untrue. Any insinuation of inappropriate behaviour or breach of statutes and regulations constitutes defamation." The spokesperson added that no UEFA or FIFA employee has ever complained about Mr. Infantino's conduct, as he has never been involved in any incident.

UEFA confirmed payments were made but asserted they were in accordance with regulations. This controversy surfaces at a critical time for Infantino, who is already facing pressure over recent decisions and proposals, as he prepares to seek re-election as FIFA president next March.
