Infantino's reign questioned as confederations unite against him

Gianni Infantino, the president of world football's governing body FIFA, appears to be facing the end of his tenure and his controversial ideas, but caution is advised. UEFA has received support from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) in its dispute with the FIFA chief.

It will be difficult for the FIFA president to survive the justified attacks on his leadership after the highly controversial World Cup held in the US, Mexico, and Canada. More and more people are against him, although he initially had significant support. Now, that is no longer the case, as fewer football associations and continental confederations back Infantino, and he will likely struggle to survive the elections in early 2027.

UEFA has gained the backing of the AFC and CONCACAF in its dispute with the head of world football. The three organizations released a joint statement criticizing Infantino's work. This move follows UEFA's confirmation last week that it would continue boycotting FIFA competitions. That decision remained in place despite Infantino abandoning his controversial plan to sell the World Cup to private investors and publicly apologizing for it.

UEFA stated that they have lost trust in Infantino, who maintains his position with the support of the African Football Confederation and federations like Argentina's and Mexico's. Now, UEFA, AFC, and CONCACAF have united in their accusations against the FIFA president. In a joint statement, they claim he uses deception.

This is not about money. That is why we have taken this stance; not lightly, and not alone, but together, out of duty to the game we serve. The strength of football has always been in its unity. We call for this unity to be respected now and for us to have leadership that serves football, not leadership that attempts to rule it," the joint statement from the three continental federations reads.

At this moment, it seems that the end is near for Infantino and his ideas, but one should still be cautious. He is a cunning man and certainly did not embark on the realization of his ideas unprepared, however much it now seems that the end of his era has arrived. Unless Trump invents something... And he is apparently one of his few allies, given how 'brilliantly' they organized this year's World Cup.
