Ingebrigtsen wins first race in nearly a year with 5,000m title at Euro champs

Jakob Ingebrigtsen staged a remarkable comeback to claim the 5000 metres title at the European Athletics Championships, marking his return to competition after nearly a year.

Ingebrigtsen, the reigning Olympic champion, won his seventh continental gold medal with a time of 13 minutes and 15.29 seconds. He surged past Germany's Florian Bremm in a dramatic sprint finish down the final straight. Etienne Daguinos of France secured third place.

The 25-year-old Norwegian had undergone surgery on his left Achilles tendon in February. He managed only six weeks of focused training before competing in Birmingham. Despite a slow start and a moment of being boxed in on the penultimate lap, Ingebrigtsen demonstrated his championship pedigree, accelerating around the final turn to secure the victory as the crowd cheered him on.
