Inmate escapes during hospital visit in Denmark

Police are actively searching for a 34-year-old inmate who escaped custody while visiting Hvidovre Hospital on Sunday evening. The man, who is serving a sentence for robbery, fled as he was being transferred from an ambulance into the hospital's emergency room around 9:50 PM.

He said that he had felt sick, so Kriminalforsorgen brought him down to the hospital. When he was to get out of the ambulance and into the emergency room, he saw his chance to escape.

Jens Møller, duty officer at Copenhagen Vestegns Police, confirmed the escape. He stated that the inmate had complained of feeling unwell, prompting the correctional services to take him to the hospital. "He said he felt sick, so correctional services brought him to the hospital. As he was about to get out of the ambulance and into the emergency room, he saw his chance to escape," Møller explained.

While the specific prison and the length of the inmate's sentence have not been disclosed, police emphasize that he is not considered dangerous. "He is not dangerous. He is not someone we fear will run out and harm other people," Møller assured.

Despite immediate efforts by authorities at the scene to locate the escapee, the search was unsuccessful. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident. Police are continuing their investigation and search for the man, who will likely face additional charges for his escape.
