Intentional Homicides Down 46%: Sheinbaum | El Universal

Mexico has achieved a notable reduction in intentional homicides, with daily averages falling by 46% between September 2024 and May 2026. This significant decrease saw the average number of daily homicides drop from 86.9 to 47.3.

According to Marcela Figueroa Franco, head of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP), May 2026 marked the lowest number of intentional homicides recorded during the initial 20 months of the current federal administration. Despite these concentrations, homicides have decreased in 28 states across the country.
