Investigation into 'Şeytantepe Documentary' expands to financial activities of 31 individuals

An investigation into the "Şeytantepe Documentary" is intensifying, with prosecutors now seeking to scrutinize the financial activities of 31 individuals. The probe, initiated after a complaint from the Diyarbakır Provincial Gendarmerie Command, centers on allegations of disinformation and the public dissemination of misleading information concerning the trial of Narin Güran's murder.

The Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has formally requested the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) to identify and report on the complete financial movements of these 31 individuals. This move aims to uncover the potential financial underpinnings of the alleged disinformation campaign.

Authorities are reportedly examining the connections and financial transactions of the individuals involved, seeking to understand the possible financial dimensions of the alleged misinformation. The scope of the investigation may expand, and the number of individuals facing action could increase based on the findings from these financial analyses.

The case stems from the tragic murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran in Bağlar district, Diyarbakır, in August 2024. Her body was found 19 days later in a riverbed, stuffed in a sack and covered with stones. An autopsy revealed she had been strangled. Her uncle, mother, and brother received aggravated life sentences for intentional homicide, while a neighbor received a lesser sentence for moving the body. Other relatives and minors received shorter sentences for offenses like aiding and abetting.
