Investigation: Teenagers suspected of taking two buses for a joyride

Two teenagers have come under investigation after two scheduled buses were taken from a company depot in Hamelin for what authorities described as a joyride.

The incident took place during the night of Aug. 5. One of the youths, a 14-year-old from Oldenburg, is being investigated by the Oldenburg public prosecutor’s office and has only just reached the age of criminal responsibility, a spokeswoman confirmed.

The other suspect reportedly comes from the Hanover region. According to NDR, the two teenagers are believed to have filmed themselves during the act.

Police found one bus the next morning in Barsinghausen and the second in a dead-end street in Wunstorf. Officers initially reported no damage and had no information about who had driven the vehicles.

Investigators were later able to reconstruct the routes using the buses’ built-in GPS technology. The public prosecutor’s investigation remains ongoing.
