Investigation underway into early morning police shooting in Calgary

An investigation is underway into an early morning police shooting in Calgary, Alberta. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is leading the probe into the incident that occurred in the Bridlewood neighborhood.

Calgary police were called to the 1000 block of Bridlemeadows Manor Southwest around 1 a.m. on Thursday. They responded to reports of a disturbance involving a man armed with a weapon. Upon arrival, officers found that the man had entered a nearby residence.

Authorities attempted to de-escalate the situation and take the individual into custody. However, approximately two hours after the initial call, the man exited the residence. A confrontation ensued, during which one officer discharged their firearm. The suspect was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. No police officers sustained injuries in the incident.

As is standard procedure, ASIRT has been called in to conduct an independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
