Investment in youths key to tackling unemployment, Adebutu

Ladi Adebutu, the 2027 Ogun State governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is calling for greater investment in vocational training, entrepreneurship, and accessible financing for young Nigerians. He believes these measures are essential to tackle unemployment and invigorate economic growth.

Adebutu made these remarks at the 5th Agbaletu Progressive Movement anniversary in Abeokuta, where approximately 100 young individuals received vocational training and educational support. He urged government, individuals, and philanthropic organizations to provide young people with practical skills, mentorship, and crucially, access to capital. Adebutu highlighted that providing affordable financing is key for young entrepreneurs and small business owners to launch, expand, and maintain their ventures.

He reiterated that investing in youth is critical for economic development, job creation, and reducing unemployment. He stressed that creating an environment where viable businesses can flourish requires a combination of financial access, mentorship, capacity building, and skills development.

Mrs. Adenike Adebutu, wife of the PDP candidate and Life Matron of the Agbaletu Progressive Movement, echoed these sentiments. She encouraged parents to support their children in acquiring vocational skills alongside formal education. She argued that academic qualifications alone are insufficient preparation for the Nigerian economy's realities, urging young people to develop practical skills for self-reliance. She emphasized that education and vocational skills are complementary, and learning a trade does not diminish the value of formal education but rather provides additional opportunities.
