A student in La Plata, Argentina, narrowly escaped her apartment after her iPhone 14 Pro battery reportedly exploded, igniting a fire that caused extensive damage. Abril, a law student, was in the bathroom when she heard strange noises, initially fearing a break-in.

Upon investigating, she discovered her bed engulfed in flames. She quickly grabbed her cat and fled the residence, located near 7th and 55th streets. Neighbors assisted by dousing the flames before firefighters arrived, but the blaze had already caused near-total destruction of the apartment.

Abril expressed disbelief, stating, "A cell phone can't just explode like that." She explained the iPhone 14 Pro, purchased in March of the previous year, had its original battery, which had never been replaced. She noted the battery health was at 83% and the phone was not charging or overheating at the time of the incident.

Reflecting on the close call, Abril pondered the potential consequences had she been holding the phone or using it in the bathroom. Investigations are now underway to determine the exact cause of the fire and whether it was linked to a defect in the device. Abril is currently staying with her employer while seeking new accommodation.
