IPOB suspends offices of leader, Radio Biafra director

The Directorate of State of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the indefinite suspension of the Office of the Leader of IPOB and the position of Director of Radio Biafra, roles formerly occupied by Nnamdi Kanu. This decision, effective immediately, is intended to protect the movement's mission and its members, particularly within Biafraland, from potential security threats.

Considering the enormous responsibility placed upon the leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra to safeguard our operations and mission, protect IPOB family members worldwide, especially those in Biafraland, and prevent any security breach or emergency in Biafraland, the Directorate of State of IPOB has suspended indefinitely and with immediate effect the Office of the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra and the position of Director of Radio Biafra previously held by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu until further notice.

Mazi Chikadibia Edoziem, Head of the Directorate of State, issued a statement explaining that the suspension is crucial for safeguarding IPOB's operations and preventing any security breaches or emergencies in the region. The move aims to prevent unauthorized individuals or groups from exploiting the suspended offices to carry out criminal activities or actions that conflict with IPOB's stated mission.

The IPOB leadership emphasized that any crime or criminal activity undertaken in the name of the suspended Office of the Leader will not be attributed to the organization. Furthermore, IPOB will not be held accountable for actions by individuals not holding active positions within the movement or those not authorized by the Directorate of State. This measure seeks to curb unchecked actions and reckless assumptions of authority that could endanger Biafran youths.

To halt and checkmate individuals and groups not affiliated with IPOB who claim to derive legitimacy from the existence of the now-suspended Office of the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra to carry out actions that conflict with IPOB’s mission statement, any crime or criminal activity undertaken in the name of the suspended Office of the Leader shall not be attributed to IPOB, but solely to the individual or individuals responsible.

This decision is part of ongoing efforts to reposition and strengthen the Biafran self-determination movement, making it more responsive to its core objectives. The Directorate of State resolved to impose the suspension during a meeting held on June 17, 2026, citing the overall interest of Biafrans as the primary motivation. The move is expected to enhance the movement's operational integrity and accountability.

IPOB shall henceforth not be held accountable for the actions of individuals or groups not holding any active position within IPOB, or for actions taken by persons not authorised by the Directorate of State to act on behalf of the Indigenous People of Biafra self-determination movement.
