Iran adds 11 more ships to blacklist in latest Strait of Hormuz move

Iran has added 11 more vessels to its blacklist for what it calls violations of its rules for navigating the Strait of Hormuz. The move brings the total number of blacklisted ships to 56, according to information published by the Persian Gulf Strait Administration, or PGSA.

The authority warned that vessels violating Iranian protocols for the strait could face restrictions during future passages, including fines, detention or seizure. It also said ships cooperating with blacklisted vessels could be added to the list.

As of Sept. 2, the blacklist included LNG, LPG and crude-oil tankers linked to ADNOC Logistics, based in the United Arab Emirates, its subsidiary Navig8, and Saudi Arabia’s Bahri. Two of the ships have links to China.

Iran had announced on Aug. 24 that it was blacklisting 45 tankers for violating navigation rules. The latest additions come after a series of changes to passage through the strait during the war that followed attacks by the United States and Israel on Feb. 28.

Iran sharply restricted traffic through the Strait of Hormuz after the conflict began. Passage resumed after a memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States was signed on June 17, but Iran closed the strait again on July 12 after the war flared anew on July 8 amid disputes over implementation of the agreement.
