Iran announces funeral for former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei from July 4-9

Iran has announced the funeral schedule for its former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who passed away on the same day Israel launched its initial airstrikes. The commemoration events are slated to span from July 4 to July 9, marking a period of national mourning.

The 'Committee for the Commemoration of the Imam Martyr of the Struggle' detailed the proceedings, which will begin with a farewell ceremony for the public to pay their respects on July 4 and 5. This will be followed by a significant funeral procession through the capital city, Tehran, on July 6.

The mourning period will extend with another procession in the holy city of Qom on July 7. The final funeral ceremony and interment will take place on July 9 in Mashhad, a city revered as a Shia holy site and the birthplace of the former Supreme Leader. The committee has extended an invitation to all people, freedom-lovers worldwide, and followers of Islamic schools of thought to participate in bidding farewell to their leader.
