Iran attacks Gulf states and accuses U.S. of bombing a wedding party

Iran accused the United States of striking a wedding party as the Middle East war intensified, saying more than 50 people were killed or wounded at a private home in the south of the country.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said the home in Kuhestak, in Hormozgan province’s Sirik district, had been “brutally attacked tonight while families were celebrating a wedding.” He said more than 50 men, women and children had been killed or wounded. U.S. officials had not immediately commented on the allegation.

Iran also launched attacks overnight against U.S. allies Jordan, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, describing them as retaliation for a new round of American airstrikes. The U.S. military said its attacks had targeted Iranian military facilities.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and military command said they had targeted at least seven bases across the region. The sites named included facilities in Jordan, northern Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. The IRGC claimed that a ballistic missile strike on Jordan’s Camp Tabrin killed several U.S. personnel, but U.S. Central Command rejected the claim and said the camp was not a U.S. base. The United States does not maintain bases inside Jordan, although Jordanian facilities host American forces.

The U.S. military did not confirm that Iranian weapons hit any of the listed bases. Jordan and Bahrain said missiles and drones were intercepted or landed without causing damage. President Donald Trump had played down the prospect of a peace deal and renewed his call for Iranians to “rise up” against their leaders.
